Kurdistan parliament speaker, Dr. Yusif Muhammad Sadiq, and the delegation accompanied with him, came back to Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan region, after a one-week visit to Holland. The main goal of the visit was to meet Holland’s politicians and to supply humanitarian, political, and military aids for the Kurdistan region.

For this purpose, the Kurdish delegation of the Kurdistan parliament met with the foreign minister of Holland and put shed on the recent events in Kurdistan such as attacks of IS militants and fleeing of hundreds of thousands of Yezidis, Christian, and Arab refugees to Kurdistan following IS’s brutal assaults. Consequently, the Holland parliament and government decided to take part in the international campaign against terrorism and IS. In addition, Holland showed its interest to provide humanitarian and military assistance for the Kurdistan region.

Prepared by the representative of the Kurdistan regional government in Holland, another part of the delegation’s activity was a speech concerning the current situation of Kurdistan, given by the speaker of the Kurdistan parliament in a seminar. A number of the representatives of the Kurdistan political parties and Holland civil society organizations attended the seminar.

Regarding the case of introducing IS militants’ cruel attacks on ethnic minority groups such as Yezidis, Christians, and Turkmen as genocide, the Kurdistan parliament delegation visited the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Lahai and took some strong steps for it.

On 13th August 2014, Dr. Yusif Muhammad Sadiq, the president of Kurdistan parliament, received Clouya Ross, the deputy head of Germany parliament. In the meeting Dr. Yusif explained the late events of the region, the life condition of the refugees in Kurdistan after IS attacks, and the situation of Peshmarga forces in the fronts.

 Regarding the refugees, he said, “The refugees live in a very difficult situation. Since the Kurdish Regional government has not received its own share from Iraq budget in 2014, we cannot provide sufficient aid for the refugees. This is why we require urgent help from international community and humanitarian organizations”. Dr Yusif added, “What happened to Yezizis was another Holocaust; hundreds of thousands of innocent people died of lack of food and water”.

About Peshmarga forces Kurdistan parliament president clarified,” they can defend Kurdistan, but in the past Iraqi government did not support us to strengthen our military capacities. We really thank US and European countries for their prompt and significant cooperation with Peshmarga forces”.

On her part, the deputy head of Germany parliament said,” Germany is confident to support Kurdistan in fighting terrorists”. She also expressed her concern about the situation of Christian and Yezidis refugees in Shangal and Musil”.

About the relationship between KRG and Iraqi government, she said,” We are worried about the financial crisis in Kurdistan, and we hope that the Iraqi government sends back Kurdistan budget as soon as possible”.

On 8/42014 Dr. Yusif Muhammad Sadiq, Kurdistan parliament president, received a delegation of Japan parliament. The delegation expressed their pleasure for visiting Kurdistan, and they hoped to have stronger relationship with the Kurdistan region in general and Kurdistan parliament in particular. 

After welcoming the delegation, the president of Kurdistan parliament explained the present situation of Kurdistan and Iraq and the threats of ISIS in the region. The president asserted,” ISIS’s threats will be expanded to the other countries in the region if Peshmarga forces are not supported to fight against terrorist groups”. He also wanted the international society and Japan to assist Kurdish Yazidis, who have been homeless because of ISIS attacks and assaults.
On their part, the delegation confirmed that the threats of terrorist groups in the region are serious and also insisted on making a strong relationship and cooperation between Kurdistan region and Japan.

On 8/8/2014 Dr. Yusif Muhammad Sadiq, Kurdistan parliament president, received UN representative in Erbil. Dr. Yusif explained the current events in Kurdistan; especially the war between Kurdish forces and the terrorist groups named ISIS, and also clarified the life condition of Izadis and Christians in Musil, Shangal, and Shekhan.

Regarding the Christian and Yazidi families who were forced to leave their living places, Dr. Yusif said, “I want UN to support those families as soon as possible because they live in a very difficult situation”. He added,” Terror is a serious threat not only for Kurdistan but for all the countries in the region; it has an international dimension now and is really dangerous for international community. For this reason international community should cooperate with Kurdish Peshmarga in order to beat terrorists.

Showing his pleasure for the meeting and the information given by Kurdistan parliament president, Sokol Kondi, the representative of UN in Erbil said, “We as UN in the Kurdistan region never ignore the current events in Kurdistan and do our best to give necessary assistance to the refugees”.
